Home Why is creativity desirable?

All linear processes, even the efficient ones, establish certain patterns and procedures that inhibit the flow of new ideas. An organization that lacks the capacity to generate new ideas won't last long....

It's misguided to hope the new ideas will just "pop-up" when they're needed, and not to create structure that promotes the generation of creative ideas. You're at a great disadvantage if you lack an awareness of thought processes, and have no idea if a certain concept is based on logical thought patterns or if it's a unique and creative thought.

A company that limits itself to conventional thought patterns, taking only "rock-solid facts" into account, will base its growth on thought patterns easily matched by their competitors. But a company that focus on original ideas, and promotes creative and visionary thought generated within their own ranks, will gain an edge and outshine the competition.

Why don't all companies do this? Simply because creativity and inventiveness are not characteristics encouraged by school system, where knowledge has been treated like a measurable commodity and logical and mechanical thought processes have been the norm. Very few educators have the knowledge or the methods to teach creativity, innovative thinking and visionary thinking.

When are creative subjects ever allotted more resources in our school system, either with regard to time or money, in order teach our children to be inventive? Companies recruit people conditioned by the school system, in the vain hope that they will be creative and visionary.

The object of education, school or company-based, should be to combine creative and visionary thought processes with the fact-oriented and scientific knowledge we learn within the regular school system.
